MASS COMMUNICATION AND JOURNALISM
PAPER 1
100 MARKS
1. Mass Communication Techniques – feedback and evaluation of communication effect, interviews and questionnaires – methods of data analysis.
2. Language and Communication – language and society – exercise in sports, advertising, socio-political spheres.
PAPER 2
100 MARKS
1. Media Scene in India – the role of the Press – the Constitution and press Laws – Introduction to radio and TV as media of mass comunication – exercise in covering the above media.
2. Media Appreciation – subjective / objective analysis – how to read a film? advertising – populism, T. V. culture – competitive and narrative studios – personal / social issues
PAPER 3
(Practical & Viva)
100 MARKS
1. Fundamental aspects in Sound Recording for the electronic media – creative use of sound for the media through discussions, demonstrations and exercises.
2. Camera and Lights – camera technique including framing, lens selection, filters – lighting techniques – planning creative visual transitions
3. Television Journalism
Writing and reporting for electronic media : Deals with the unique problems and skills involved in handling sources of information and writing news copy for television.

Main forms of news interview
Electronic field production: Requires students to work as a video production team in the field while learning pre-production planning, researching, writing, announcing, taping and editing techniques. Emphasis includes the development of disciplines controlling vocal and visual mechanics and interpretive perfomance.

PROJECT

The Project which comprises Paper 4 is announced by the University, in this case North Bengal University some time before the exam, usually April – May. In 2008, the students had to do News Reporting and a Documentary Films. The girls did well given the fact that they had two weeks to prepare and no budget.
